Our mission is to advance teaching and research on environmental analysis and planning to support just and sustainable transformations for people and nature in metropolitan regions.

Our work is rooted in the fields of landscape ecology and environmental planning, integrative across scales from local sites to metropolitan regions, and inherently inter- and transdisciplinary by involving diverse knowledge holders from science and practice.

We carry out scientifically rigorous and societally relevant research to advance the theories and methods of environmental planning in metropolitan regions. Our work is at the nexus of human-nature-place relations and focuses on three key questions:

• How do landscape change and nature-based approaches affect biodiversity, ecosystem services, and human well-being?
• What spatial strategies can help reconcile the interests of diverse stakeholders and support the provision of biodiversity and ecosystem services across spatial and temporal scales?
  
• How can environmental planning theories, methods and instruments, including participatory and digital approaches, be advanced to facilitate well-informed decisions and support sustainable landscape development for people and nature?
